Medicare rebates are available for sessions with a psychologist under various programs subsidised by the Australian Government:
(All these programs require a valid referral and Mental Health Plan from a GP, or a referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician.)
At this practice, we bulk-bill Medicare for Healthcare Card holders and Pensioners Card holders.

Eligible people can receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions and up to 10 group therapy sessions in a calendar year (January to December). Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first 6 sessions.Helping Children with Autism initiative
This program is for children with autism or other pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).
In order to receive Medicare rebates they need to be under 13 years of age at the time of diagnosis and under 15 years of age for treatment.
Eligible children can receive rebates for up to 4 assessment sessions and up to 20 treatment sessions per calendar year. These may include sessions with other health care providers.Better Start for Children with Disability initiative
This program is for children with a disability, and the following disabilities are eligible for Medicare rebates for sessions with a psychologist, under this initiative:

This program is for women who are concerned about a current pregnancy, or a pregnancy that occured in the preceding 12 months.
Eligible women can receive rebates for up to 3 non-directive pregnancy counselling sessions per calendar year.People with chronic conditions and complex care needs
This program is for people who have a chronic (or terminal) condition and complex care needs. A chronic condition is defined as one that has been or is likely to be present for at least six months (e.g. asthma, cancer, cardiovascular illness, diabetes mellitus, musculoskeletal conditions and stroke).
Eligible people can receive rebates for up to 5 sessions per calendar year. Along with sessions with a psychologist, these may include sessions with other health care providers (e.g. occupational therapist, dietitian, osteopath).
